The Principal Sessions Court at Ernakulam has convicted Sunil N. S., popularly known as Pulsar Suni, along with five other accused in the sensational 2017 abduction and gang rape case involving a Malayalam film actress. Each of the six convicted persons has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the offence of gang rape.
The conviction was recorded on 8 December 2025, and after hearing submissions on sentencing, the court pronounced the punishment on 12 December 2025. The trial was presided over by Sessions Judge Honey M. Varghese.
The court held that the prosecution had successfully proved the offence of gang rape under Section 376D of the Indian Penal Code. It found the survivor’s testimony to be credible, consistent, and sufficiently corroborated by other evidence placed on record.
As per the prosecution case accepted by the court, the incident occurred in February 2017, when the survivor was travelling for professional work. The accused intercepted her vehicle, abducted her, and subjected her to sexual assault inside the moving vehicle.
The court relied upon witness testimony, electronic and digital evidence, and corroborative material gathered during the investigation. It concluded that the accused acted in coordination and in furtherance of a common intention to abduct and sexually assault the survivor.
While deciding the quantum of sentence, the prosecution urged the court to impose stringent punishment considering the brutality of the offence and the lasting impact on the survivor. The defence pleaded for leniency, citing the period of custody already undergone.
Rejecting the plea for leniency, the court observed that the crime was premeditated, violent, and degrading, warranting a punishment towards the higher end of the statutory range. Accordingly, it imposed 20 years of rigorous imprisonment on each of the six accused, along with fines. Sentences for other offences were directed to run concurrently.
Notably, by a separate judgment dated 8 December 2025, the court acquitted actor Dileep of conspiracy charges, holding that the prosecution failed to establish his involvement beyond reasonable doubt.
The case, which has drawn national attention since 2017, has now reached conclusion at the Sessions Court stage, subject to any appeals that may be filed by the convicted accused or the prosecution.
