AIBE Preparation Guide — Complete Study Plan & Important Sections
This AIBE (All India Bar Examination) guide focuses on practical, high-impact strategies — especially for an open-book exam. Use the table of contents below to jump to the section you need.
Exam pattern & strategy
AIBE is an objective (MCQ) open-book exam. There is no negative marking. Success depends on speed in finding the correct provisions in bare acts.
- Carry only Bare Acts and use a short printed index — commentaries are not permitted inside the exam room.
- Practice locating sections in under 30 seconds.
- Prioritise high-weight subjects: Constitution, IPC, CrPC, Evidence, Contract, Professional Ethics.
Must-know topics & frequently-tested sections
Below are sections commonly asked in AIBE. Add these to your quick-reference index.
- Constitution: Article 12, Fundamental Rights (Art.12–32), Art. 142, 226, 32 (writ jurisdiction)
- IPC (BNS): Definitions (sec. 76–79), Homicide (ss. 299–304), Theft (378–382), Criminal Conspiracy (120A–B)
- CrPC: Bail (sec. 436–438), Anticipatory Bail (sec. 438), Charge framing, Appeals
- Evidence Act: Relevancy (ss. 5–55), Dying Declaration (s.32), Burden of Proof (s.101–103)
- Professional Ethics: Advocates Act, Contempt, Bar Council Rules
Indexing & quick-find tips
Make a one-page index with the name of the Act, the topic and exact section number. Use tabs on the bare acts and number them to match your index.
- Create a printable "cheat sheet" (not to be taken into exam) with the most frequent sections.
- Use colored sticky-tabs for each act (e.g. blue for Criminal, green for Procedure).
- While practicing, time yourself and reduce the average find-time per question.

Mock tests & previous papers
